Ed Sheeran just rallied his team on the home front as England progresses farther in the World Cup, continuing a tradition he first started in 2021.

In an Instagram video shared Thursday (July 9), the British pop star visits the players at team camp in Kansas City, Mo., greeting people with hugs. “In 2021, Harry [Kane] got me down for the camp, and I met everyone, and I’ve just been to every one ever since,” Sheeran said of the England captain enlisting his musical services. “We bonded.”

The video also shows the artist singing one of his songs, Billboard Hot 100 No. 6 hit “Castle on the Hill,” for the players on acoustic guitar. And of course, Sheeran expressed his belief that Team England will prove victorious in the tournament, speculating that France will be the second team who makes it to the final.

“Anyone can win, and I think it’ll be us,” he said.

England’s next match will be against Norway on Saturday. The tournament will culminate in the World Cup Final on July 19, which is set to feature a first-of-its-kind halftime show curated by Chris Martin’s Coldplay with co-headliners Justin Bieber, BTS, Madonna and Shakira.

As Sheeran — who has a minority stake in Ipswich Town in Suffolk, England — mentioned in the video, he has a history with England’s national soccer team. He first performed for the players as they enjoyed a meal in 2021, after which the hitmaker told BBC’s Crouchy’s Year-Late Euros, “I’ve had amazing moments in my life, but I don’t think there’s many moments that will top that.”
