SZA Hit the Brakes on ‘Scorsese Baby Daddy’ Video Because Its Freaky Concept ‘Scares’ Her ‘Too Much’

SZA just revealed that one of her projects has gotten away from her a little bit, posting an unfinished draft of a music video for her song “Scorsese Baby Daddy” that she’s delayed finishing because its concept “scares” her.
In the snippet shared Friday (July 10), someone who appears to be the R&B hitmaker — although it’s impossible to tell for sure, given the alien-like prosthetics altering her entire face — dances in a gym with other extraterrestrial-looking beings in 1980s-esque workout leotards. “Got a brand new reason to spiral out/ On the edge already, don’t push me now/ I’ma crash out, baby, don’t slow me down,” she sings, her antennae bobbing as she grinds and twerks on one of the backup dancers.
“Drafts we never finished part 20585969437,” SZA wrote in the caption, tagging director Bradley J. Calder.
It’s been well over a year since “Scorsese Baby Daddy” dropped as part of SOS Deluxe: LANA in December 2024, with the song later peaking at No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the comments of her post, the singer explained why there’s been such a delay on the song’s music video, writing, “When ur own concept scares u too much n s–t start warping in the edit room 😭😭 yall don’t understand.”
But she also might be open to revisiting the concept after seeing how much her fans loved it in the comments. “Jus told [Calder] we gotta finish thissss,” she posted on her Story as followers pleaded with her to release the full video.
The Grammy winner’s post comes shortly after she participated in the Lauryn Hill tribute at the 2026 BET Awards in June. “Still processing being involved,” she wrote on Instagram after the performance. “She’s dead a– from my hometown + went to my high school. Nothings mattered more .”
SZA also recently guested on Steve Lacy’s “Is It Cool?,” which follows her collaboration “Boy in Red” with Isaiah Rashad and the release of “Save the Day” from Pixar’s Hoppers soundtrack.
