Tom Holland: Zendaya Is “More Talented Than I Am”

If you’re looking for more confirmation that Tom Holland and Zendaya are Hollywood’s reigning power couple, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour is proof that the duo are not only the (short) king and (style) queen of the moment, they are also madly in love. The married couple have taken over our timelines with adorable quips and quotes about each other, but this latest admission from Holland may just be my personal favorite.
She is more talented than I am, and she makes everyone in their scenes way, way better. That’s the best thing about working with Z[endaya].

While walking the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Holland gushed about working with Zendaya over the decade that they have been playing MJ and Peter Parker in the Marvel franchise. “ I’m so grateful with how this has all ended up — professionally and personally,” Holland said. “I wouldn’t want anything to change. Where I’m standing here today, I feel so blessed and lucky to get to do what I do on the stage that I do it on, with the wonderful people that I get to share that experience with.”
And when asked by Refinery29 reporter Dawnie Jefferson what the best part of working with one of those wonderful people — his wife — is, Holland said, “That she is more talented than I am, and she makes everyone in their scenes way, way better. That’s the best thing about working with Z.”
I just want to say that to my fellow #Tomdaya day ones, we used to pray for moments like this. When we were in those Tumblr fanfic streets (just me?), who would have imagined this happy ending for our faves? It’s me. I imagined it. But I digress. This answer outranks some of the couple’s most viral moments (real ones know the famous giggly “avocados” junket clip) for me because it encapsulates the love and respect Holland has for his wife, professionally, not just personally.
My wish for all straight women is to get you a man who speaks so highly of you and your work, a man who loves you so loudly he’s unafraid to say you are better at things than him. Sure, the bar is on the floor thanks to incel culture and the men we’ve lost to the manosphere, but REAL men like Holland know that husbands are supposed to be down bad for their wives and shout that fact from the rooftops whenever possible. Ladies, never forget that’s the kind of love we all deserve!

Holland and Zendaya (it’s a good thing she goes by one name because we don’t know what her legal last name is these days) were 20 and 19 years-old respectively when their first Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming was released. A decade later (Holland just turned 30), the pair are married (both Holland and Zendaya’s stylist Law Roach have confirmed the nuptials) and open about how thankful they are to be on this journey together. The couple also just starred in the biggest movie in the world, Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, together. And if Spider-Man: Brand New Day achieves its projected box office numbers, they might make Hollywood power couple history as the first married couple to star in the #1 and #2 movies in the world at the same time. Turns out, the greatest Spider-Man love story wasn’t Peter and MJ — it was the one happening between takes.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is in theatres this Friday, July 31.
