Belmont Cameli’s Hair Routine Is Surprisingly Low Maintenance, Thanks To These 3 Products

Actor Belmont Cameli might be known for his sweet smile, adorable dance moves, and yes, a sculpted six-pack — but I’d argue his signature curls are the real scene-stealers. So much so, in fact, that his tousled ringlets caught the attention of TRESemmé, which tapped Cameli as the newest face (and, of course, hair) of its Bouncy Curls range.
“I was super excited to be involved,” Cameli tells Refinery29, “and once I got ahold of the products, I quickly learned how simple they are to use. “The products all work really well together, and it’s a pretty light-lift routine.”
Though Cameli is fully in his curly-hair era now, he didn’t always embrace his natural texture. “My hair has evolved quite a bit,” he says. “It was poker straight when I was a kid, and then in middle school I had the Justin Bieber swoop — I kept a brush and a mirror in my locker.” By high school, though, his curls had taken on a life of their own. “My hair started getting wavy and then curly, and now it just keeps getting curlier, which I love.”
Ahead, Cameli shares his low-maintenance curl routine, the styling tricks he’s picked up on set, what he imagines his Off Campus character’s haircare routine looks like, and the surprisingly simple essentials he never leaves home without.

On his daily hair routine
Like many curly folks, Cameli’s routine has evolved over the years. Where he once relied on strong-hold gels, he now reaches for products that leave his curls soft, touchable, and subtly defined. “I was more of a firm hold gel guy when I was younger, and now I just want something lightweight that’s not crunchy, and I can just enhance what I got going on upstairs already. But in my daily life now, I’m really just like a bedhead guy. I don’t want to put too much in my hair. I just want it to be light and easy, so the Defining Mousse is great for that.”
On picking up beauty tips from set
While his off-duty routine is relatively low-maintenance, Cameli admits he’s picked up more than a few tips and tricks from the on-set stylist. His biggest takeaway? “A diffuser goes a long way when you have curly hair. I don’t always use one at home, but when I’m preparing for work, a diffuser’s always a part of the process. It’s good to get a lightweight product like the Defining Cream from TRESemmé in first, since that will help you shape it when you go to diffuse. Also clips! When I want to look fancy, it’s good to go in with product and then clip your curls down and just let them air dry in a tight coil.”
On Garrett Graham’s haircare routine
If you were wondering whether Cameli has imagined what products his Off Campus character, Garrett Graham, reaches for, the answer is an emphatic yes. According to the actor, Garrett’s curls may look effortlessly tousled, but they’re definitely not accidental.
“Garrett definitely has a hair routine because as you see, when he’s done playing hockey and his hair is really sweaty, his curls are falling in his face. Garrett’s a little more buttoned up on the day-to-day, so he does pull his hair out of his face a little bit more. Not completely, though — he’s not going in with any sort of gel, but he probably has a good lightweight curl product in combination with something with a little bit of hold. He’s probably using the Air Dry Foam to give it that hold after doing the lift.”
On his self-care regimen
Cameli is the first to say that you don’t need an elaborate, expensive wellness routine to stay grounded and in the right mindset. Instead, he keeps it simple: move his body, spend time outside, and never underestimate the power of sleep. (Same!) “When it comes to my mental and physical health, the most important thing for me is exercise. You don’t even have to have a gym membership — going for a walk is a huge one for me, too. When it comes to at-home, I’m a big proponent of naps. I’m a big nap guy. People fight me on that a lot, but it’s crucial to getting through the day for me.”
On his summer must-haves
Forget the latest gadget or status bag. Cameli’s current MVPs are the kind of core staples that are life upgrades hiding in plain sight. “I can never resist a good pair of sweats, even when it’s really hot outside. I have a couple pairs of pants that I keep in rotation, and I wear all the time. Right now, I’m loving just a good pair of corded headphones for when I’m out and about or when I’m at work killing time. I’m just kind of cheap — I always forget my nice headphones. So I just go grab some corded headphones from the nearest store, and I keep one in my car, one at home, and one in my backpack so I can listen to music at all times. That’s a big one for me.”
