Google Docs Is Rolling Out These Three New Gemini Features

Google makes both Gemini and Docs, so it's not surprising that you'll find plenty of the former's features while using the latter. Gemini has a ton of Google Docs integration, including reading your text out loud, searching and summarizing your Docs in Drive, and a "Gemini bar" embedded into the app for prompting anytime. It's to the point that it's tough to avoid, which isn't great news for Google Docs users uninterested in AI features.

Of course, that won't stop Google. The company continues to add new Gemini features at a steady clip, and this week is no exception. As Android Authority notes, Gemini is now rolling out new image creation and editing abilities available directly in Google Docs. Google announced the changes in a Workspace update on Tuesday, highlighting how Docs users can tap into Gemini to create and edit images, diagrams, and infographics in their documents.

How Gemini's new Google Docs features work

According to Google, Gemini has three new functions Workspace users can take advantage of. First, users can create infographics or diagrams that summarize the doc in question. You could ask Gemini to do something like "add a diagram that explains the proposal at the top of this doc," or "create an infographic that summarizes the doc visually." Google says Gemini will pull from the context of the doc for these graphics, so these images should reflect what you have written in your doc—excluding the odd hallucination, of course.

In addition, Gemini can "refine existing visuals." You can ask Gemini to adjust the images in your doc with requests like, "change the aspect ratio of this image to 4:3," or "match the image's style to the other images in this doc." Finally, you can also ask Gemini to generate or edit multiple images at once. You could request the AI to create infographics in each section of your doc, or update all images at once.

Who has access to these new Gemini features?

These new additions to Google Docs aren't rolling out to everyone. Instead, they're exclusive to Workspace users, which includes Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. If you pay for Google's AI features, you can try these out once they roll out on your end. If your school, work, or organization uses Workspace, the same applies. Here's the full list:
