3 new to Paramount+ movies you need to stream this weekend (July 24-26)

Paramount+ is a perfect streaming service if you're building a weekend movie marathon. It adds dozens of movies to the platform each month. It just added 70 new movies and shows on July 1. Many of these are beloved classics or more modern hits. A few times a month, you also get brand-new movies from Paramount Skydance studios.

This week, I've selected a new movie that will debut this weekend: "Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender." It's the feature-length follow-up to the iconic Nickelodeon series, and it's a must-watch for anyone who grew up with the show. If animated movies aren't your speed, though, make sure to check out "Everybody Wants Some!!" It's a spiritual successor to Richard Linklater's "Dazed and Confused" and is loaded with talented actors. Finally, "Glory" needs to be on your watchlist if you've never seen it. It earned Denzel Washington his first Oscar, and once you're done watching, you'll understand why.

'Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender' (2026)

Genre: Animated fantasy movie

What's it about? A follow-up to the Nickelodeon series "Avatar: The Last Airbender," this movie takes place 13 years later. It reunites Avatar Aang (Eric Nam) and his gang as they search for Tagah (Dave Bautista), an airbender who, like Aang, survived the purge of the Air Nomads by becoming frozen in ice.

Why you should watch it: While it's unnerving to hear these iconic characters voiced by new voice actors, I'm still excited for this movie. The original series was one of the best animated shows of the past few decades, and it's been a while since we've gotten a meaningful new chapter.

'Everybody Wants Some!!' (2016)

Genre: Comedy movie

What's it about? "Everybody Wants Some!!" stars an incredible ensemble cast that includes Blake Jenner, Zoey Deutch, Glen Powell, Ryan Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Will Brittain and Wyatt Russell. Arguably a spiritual sequel to "Dazed and Confused," it follows the lives of several college baseball players in Texas in 1980.

Why you should watch it: If "Dazed and Confused" and its 1970s setting are too dated for you, "Everybody Wants Some!!" is a (slightly) more modern take on the coming-of-age tale. It's also an excellent period piece, something that Linklater has nailed more than once in his career.

'Glory' (1989)

Genre: Epic war movie

What's it about? "Glory" tells the story of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, the first all-Black regiment in the U.S. military. It's an ensemble performance that features Matthew Broderick and Cary Elwes as officers, as well as Morgan Freeman, Andre Braugher, and Denzel Washington as some of the former slaves and freedmen fighting in the infantry ranks.

Why you should watch it: "Glory" is nearly four decades old, but still holds up visually against its modern counterparts. Denzel also wins an Oscar for his performance as Trip, who often serves as a devil's advocate-like figure throughout the movie. It's a performance that leads to some emotionally powerful moments, and a movie that's a must-watch.
