Emma Sleep launches new 'anti-heatwave' mattress range — and they're up to £500 off in the brand's big summer sale

Emma mattress has launched its newest line-up — and this cooler sleep collection might have arrived just in time for a scorching hot summer. The Performance mattress range, starting from £549 in the Emma sale, uses Emma's breathable AirGrid technology to keep you cooler even when another heatwave inevitably hits.

The Emma AirGrid is found in one of the best mattresses we've tested; the Emma Original Elite (formerly the Emma Hybrid AirGrid). Our tester credited the AirGrid with the plush, contouring feel that made the Original Elite so comfortable for side sleepers, as well as its breathable feel "even on warmer days."

So why not stick with the Original collection? Emma's new Performance mattress range aims to take the comfort of the Original and turn it up a notch, meaning more cushioning, enhanced support and better airflow... but that also means boosting the prices. Here's everything you need to know.

Emma's Performance collection includes beds featuring the brand's most up-to-date comfort tech, so it's no surprise that they also come with the highest prices. Luckily, Emma is known to love a sale and two Performance mattresses are already on sale.

Even the cheapest Performance mattress, the 26, has a higher RRP than the most luxurious mattress in the Original Emma line-up (the Emma Original Elite mattress, which starts at £454.30 in the sale.)

The line-up is similar in price to Simba's hybrid mattress range (without the mega-luxurious option of the Simba Ultra Hybrid mattress). And while brands such as Otty offer hybrid mattresses for a lower price (the Otty Original mattress is just £599.99 for a double), they lack the luxury and performance features of this new Emma range.

However, as premium mattresses, you might want to wait for a sale before you buy. Luckily, Emma doesn't shy away from a sale. If the bed you want isn't discounted right now, it's worth waiting for the discount to change.

Emma Performance mattress collection: Features

Emma describes the Performance mattress range as its "most cooling and responsive", and it's Emma's innovative AirGrid tech that should create this feel.

The AirGrid, found in all three of the Performance mattresses, is a flexible material constructed with cutouts to form a grid. The unusual shaping allows the material to bend and yield easily, to adapt to every part of your body. The result should be incredible pressure relief with no sore arms and shoulders.

The grid design also improves airflow, as warm air can escape through the holes. This allows air to circulate and cool, keeping you at a more comfortable temperature throughout the night (overheating was a common complaint of some of Emma's early mattresses).

Alongside the AirGrid, the Performance mattresses use MemoryAdapt foam (for cushioned comfort) and a SupportBase plus pocket springs (for full-body support). The Performance beds also feature a foam railing — this is new to Emma mattresses and should help boost edge support so you can stretch out without sliding off.

While the basic Performance mattress package is the same, the more you pay, the plusher and taller the design becomes. The Performance 26 is 26 centimeters tall, the 28 is 28 centimeters tall... you get it.

So the more you spend, the more mattress you get.
